Paul Ferguson added to Advances in News Gathering Panel

By BradStenger | January 17, 2008

Paul Ferguson recently won a technical Emmy award for mobile news gathering system that he and Terence Burke put together for CNN’s International desk. The backpack-able system allows a one-man band or a pair of journalists in the field to gather, edit, and upload news video with equipment that fits in a backpack. They can even go straight to air over a mobile-sat connection with this setup. We’re pleased to include him on the Advances in News Gathering panel.

Paul Ferguson is a fine journalist because he knows news requires physical labor. The mobile news gathering system is proof of this.

Hair styles, fake names, good connections, or being the hot property are no substitute for journalistic fieldwork.

Thank goodness people like Paul Ferguson have the needed skills to bring the world the news.
